Let’s check in on how Liz Truss’s post-Number 10 career is going shall we? The shortest-serving prime minister in British political history has been pivoting towards MAGA America for months, and this week opened CPAC GB.
CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) is a right-wing conference that started in America, where pro-Trump, MAGA hat-wearers all meet up.
Truss has decided to lead efforts to get a British version going here, imaginatively called CPAC GB, which claims it wants to “save Britain, save the west.”
But if the size of the crowd she was speaking to on the opening morning is anything to go by, it doesn’t seem to have caught the hearts and minds of the right.
In a clip of Truss’s speech posted by the Mirror’s US political editor Mikey Smith, swathes of empty chairs can be seen in the auditorium.
As Truss complains about another prime minister being replaced (oh the irony), she’s met with what we’re going to generously label a lukewarm reaction from the handful of people in attendance.
So, she’s getting the post-prime minister career she deserves then really.
Journalist Rob Lownie also shared pictures from Truss’s speech, showing just how sparse her audience was.
There were plenty more who had something to say about Truss’s CPAC GB speech as well.
Other figures set to speak at CPAC GB are Nigel Farage, Jacob Rees-Mogg and right-wing conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec.
