It only took him 420 years

Guy Fawkes was more popular than any political leader on Bonfire Night, a new poll has shown.

The story of Guy Fawkes trying to blow up Parliament is a classic in British culture and the reason we celebrate the 5 November on these isles.

However, of course, Fawkes would, by today's standards, be considered a terrorist for his actions in trying to kill the king and destroy the Houses of Parliament.

This said, time has treated the man well as, in 2025, his popularity has skyrocketed!

Polling figures released yesterday on 5 November from Luke Tryl, director of polling organisation More in Common, showed that Guido Fawkes is in fact currently more popular than any political leader.

Tryl shared the data in a post on X and wrote: "Remember, Remember the 5th of November, well it may have taken some 420 years but Guy Fawkes now has a higher net-positivity score from Brits than any of the party leaders we tested, though a surprising number are 'neutral' on the man who tried to blow up the House of Lords."
