Steve Hopkins

‘An absolutely tragic incident’

A woman and child have been killed after an Audi crashed into a car dealership in Leeds on Monday.

The car crashed into a wall outside the Vertu Jaguar Leeds car dealership on Scott Hall Road, in the Sheepscar area of the city, around 8.30am.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman and child were found “injured at the scene” and both were pronounced deceased a short time later.

Police believe both were pedestrians “who have been hit by the car prior to it colliding with the wall”.

The driver of the Audi, a male who had not been identified, was taken to hospital and is being treated for injuries which are described as” serious but non-life threatening”.

He is under arrest.

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, of the force’s major collision enquiry team, said the incident was “absolutely tragic”.

He added: “We are working to support the family of the woman and child involved.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone else who has witnessed the collision itself or the events leading up to it.

“We would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time of this collision to check their dashcam footage.”

The major road remained closed and flanked by police vehicles on Monday afternoon as collision detectives investigated the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team by using 101 Live Chat online or by calling 101, quoting log 260 of 16/01.
