‘I am ready to fight’
Vitali Klitschko has sent a chilling warning to Russian forces that he is “ready to fight” following several reports of mayoral kidnappings across Ukraine.
A number of mayors have reportedly been kidnapped ever since Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to cross the border, with the mayors of Dniprorudne and Melitopol allegedly kidnapped in the last few days.
However the former boxer Klitschko, who is also the mayor Kyiv, has issued a strong warning to any forces that try to kidnap him in an interview with Fox News on Monday.

“I am ready to fight,” Klitschko said.
“This will be not easy to do that. Every citizen, nobody is safe, nobody feels safety in our country right now in this very difficult situation. But everyone ready to fight, ready to defend our city, and I am not worried about kidnap.
“I am ready to fight, that’s why I have weapons, that’s why it’s my hometown and I want to defend the interest of my citizens, the interest of my home, the interest of my family.”
The 50-year-old also stated that “war has rules” and that kidnapping several of Ukraine’s mayors in an “un-human” way was one way of breaking them.
“Never touch children, never touch women, never touch civilians,” Klitschko explained.
“But Russians don’t want the rules and what they want is the symbol, symbol of the city, symbol of community.
“They can’t stop the mood of the people and that’s why they kidnap — kidnap the mayors, and it’s actually against all rules and we see how unfriendly, how un-human activity make Russians in our land.”
