How hot will the UK heatwave get?

Amber heat health alerts are already in force across most of England, with the UK Health Security Agency warning of “significant” impacts across health and social care, including a possible rise in deaths. 

The Met Office said the highest temperatures on Thursday would hit the east, south-east and Midlands, where “37 or even 38 Celsius could be reached”, potentially affecting transport, infrastructure and health.

Only the North East of England escapes the amber alert, with a less intense yellow warning.
