A bar in Greater Manchester has banned solo-drinkers after 9pm for the "safety of all guests".
Carl Peters, the owner of Alibi, a bar in Altrincham, said that the ban was in place to "protect customers from being mithered by solo drinkers".
After sharing a reel to Instagram about the move, the ban was hit with a massively mixed reaction with some slamming the venue and others supporting the decision.
Speaking to the BBC, Peters explained his decision.
He said that if someone on their own has a seizure or an accident while alone "in a late night busy bar environment, it's an absolute nightmare for us to deal with".
He also added: "Sometimes if you let people in on their own, the reason why they're on their own is that they've got no-one to talk to, so they start mithering other groups.
"So what we do as a venue is we just eliminate that.
"Unless you're with a group and we know who you're with, then you're not coming in."
Peters explained that he took "pride" in knowing that his customers "feel safe in his venue".
He also expressed his surprise that the move was being criticised on social media.
