Two men responsible for planning the Paris attacks have been killed in Syria

Two of the men involved in the planning of the Paris attacks of November 2015 have been killed in a US air strike in Syria, officials say.

A Pentagon statement names the men - both members of so-called Islamic State - as Salah Gourmat and Sammy Djedou. A third man with links to a failed terror attack in Belgium in 2015 was also killed in the air strike, which took place on December 4. The three men are believed to have been planning further attacks against Western targets at the time of the airstrike.

According to Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook, the three men were part of a network which was led by Tunisian-born Boubaker al-Hakim, who was killed an another air strike on November 16.

"This strike highlights our relentless efforts to simultaneously target ISIL (IS) members who seek to attack the US, our interests, and our allies around the world," Mr Cook said.

A total of 130 people were killed in the attacks on the French capital on November 13 of last year, with 350 more left wounded. The Bataclan concert hall, an international friendly match between France and Germany at the Stade de France and some of the cities bars and restaurants were targeted.
