Two bodies found inside submerged truck after collapse of Baltimore bridge

The search for the remaining workers continues

Authorities have recovered two bodies that were found inside a submerged pickup truck underneath the Baltimore bridge.

A ‘mass casualty’ event was declared immediately after  the 1.6 mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed.

A Singapore-flagged container ship called DALI struck one of the pillars of the bridge, causing it to collapse into the Patapsco River.

It is believed that the recovered bodies belong to two of the eight construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time of the incident.

Two of the workers were rescued on the day of the collapse, but the search for the unaccounted four continues. They are all presumed to be dead.

Maryland State Police identified two of the rescued workers as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26 on Wednesday (March 27). They were rescued from inside a submerged pickup truck by divers.

However, police have now confirmed that divers can no longer safely search the waters due to the amount of debris in the river.

Instead, they are using sonar scans to try and find bodies in submerged vehicles that are “encased in superstructure and concrete” but may contain more bodies.

Two have been confirmed dead so far, and they have been identified as Miguel Luna and Maynor Suazo Sandoval.
