Steve Bannon – President Trump’s former chief strategist – has been arrested and charged with fraud in relation to the building of a border wall with Mexico.

The U.S. Department of Justice says the charges relate to fundraising around the building of the border wall. According to Sky News, the charges were contained in an indictment unsealed in Manhattan federal court.

Bannon was involved in the We Build The Wall campaign, a fundraising effort to support the building of a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

Bannon, along with three others, “orchestrated a scheme to defraud hundreds of thousands of donors”, allege federal prosecutors in America.
We Build The Wall was an online crowdfunding campaign responsible for raising over $25m (£19m).

Bannon’s spokesperson has not responded to requests for comment.
