Transgender man who tricked women into sex with prosthetic penis jailed for 10 years

April Curtin

His youngest victim was 16-years-old when he was aged 20

A transgender man who used a fake penis to lure women into relationships, and became extremely violent when they discovered the truth, has been jailed for 10 years.

Tarjit Singh, 32, enticed three women into relationships between 2010 and 2016, but insisted on having sex in the dark so he could use a prosthetic penis without their knowledge.

When the women found out what was going on, Singh, who was born as Hannah Walters, became emotionally and physically abusive.

Singh, of Enfield in North London, threatened to set fire to one victim during an incident, in which he attacked her with lighter fluid. He also punched, slapped, beat her up and strangled her, leaving her with a fractured nose and a cut on her forehead.

The 32-year-old’s rages left another victim with bruising and a black eye.

Singh lured in his first victim on Facebook in 2010, when he was aged 20 and she had just turned 16-years-old.

Reading an impact statement in court, the victim said: “I was only 16 at the time and was at a very vulnerable place in my life. The defendant used this to his own advantage. They used me for their own sickening games. The lies he told me and my family have affected my relationship with my family. I was robbed of the most important years of my life.”

Singh met his second victim in a chicken shop and his third, who has learning difficulties, on dating site Plenty of Fish. Both his second and third victim were in their twenties when he was too.

His third victim said she has suffered with depression, PTSD and anxiety as a result.

“I used to be a fun-loving girl. I feel he has stolen my twenties off me,” she said,  “I have a recurring nightmare and wake up scared about what happened to me.”

The second victim did not wish to make an impact statement.

Singh told one victim he was born a boy, had a sex change to become a woman, and now wanted to be a man again. He told another victim he would be having a sex change to become a woman.

The latter victim met with Singh after what she believed was the sex change operation, and noticed that he now had breasts but no scarring.

He was caught out after this relationship became abusive and the victim made a complaint to police. Investigators then linked this case back to the two earlier victims that had already been reported to police.

In May, Singh was found guilty of three counts of assault by penetration, six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of making a threat to kill following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Jurors cleared him of two counts of assault by penetration.

Appearing in the dock at the same court on Wednesday, Singh had his head in his hands and did not speak at all during the sentencing.

Prosecutors said he has convictions for a string of serious offences including false imprisonment, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and supplying cannabis.

Kate Bex QC, in mitigation for Singh, said he suffers from unstable personality disorder, gender dysmorphia and is suffering in a female prison.

“All three women continued to have a consensual sexual relationship with this defendant when they discovered that he is a transgender man and a biological woman,” she said.

Sentencing Singh, Judge Oscar Del Fabbro described his behaviour as “controlling, violent and abusive”, adding:  “You are an accomplished and manipulative liar.”

Judge Fabbro added: “You are an intelligent man who understands matters regarding life generally. It seems that as an intelligent person it would have been plain to you that the women you were speaking to were vulnerable. You played a part in stopping your first victim reporting you to the police and you had a vice-like grip on her.”

Singh must serve two thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole and will spend a further three years after his release on an extended licence. He will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years.
