Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk rocked up to an East London pub to perform with a Tony Hawk cover band, much to the surprise and delight of the punters in attendance.

The 54-year-old American turned up at Signature Brew in Haggerston to support The 900 at their gig on Saturday night.

As reported by the Metro, the band pride themselves on being the ‘UK’s first and only Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band’. They were performing songs from the iconic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video game.

“Thank you for having such a reverence for [the games],” Hawk told the crowd in one video shared on social media.

“It’s really been my biggest honour to have these games carry on for so long. Hey, and we’re keeping it going right? I had to join the party. Enjoy!”

The 900 revealed that the skateboarder’s appearance had been planned for several weeks, but that they were keeping it as a secret for the crowd.

Speaking to, the band said: “The whole night was unreal, meeting Tony was a dream come true for all of us.

“He was super down to earth and it blew our minds when he agreed to do this. We’ve had it planned for a few weeks now but kept it a secret to try and make the night as special as possible for the crowd

“It’s not an understatement to say his games shaped who we all are today and helped us discover some of our favourite bands. We are so grateful he wanted to join us on stage to give us and the crowd one of the most memorable nights of our lives”.

Responding to a video on Twitter, Hawk wrote: “Looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind…”

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released for PlayStation in 1999 and, so far, the series has included a total of 20 games.
