DJ Tim Westwood has stepped down from his position on Capital Xtra amid recent sexual misconduct allegations.
A Global spokesperson - the media company which owns the station - has since confirmed that the DJ has left his show, stating that "Following the claims that have recently come to light, Tim Westwood has stepped down from his show until further notice."
Westwood, 64, has denied all the allegations levelled against him - however, at least seven women are thought to have come forward detailing alleged predatory behaviour including groping, manipulation and abuse of power through his position in the music industry.
Westwood joined Capital Radio in 2013 after more than two decades at the BBC. Director-general Tim Davie called the claims "shocking", labelling the testimonies of the accusers as "powerful and appalling". He has also urged others who may have any more information to come forward. First reports of the allegations were released in the hours before a BBC Three exposé entitled, Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power, aired at 9pm on Tuesday, April 26, which detailed the claims of seven women whose names were changed for the documentary. Of the victims identified so far, seven were said to have been involved/aspiring to be part of the music industry when Westwood allegedly used his position in the business opportunistically, exhibiting predatory behaviour towards girls in their late teens and early twenties. A veteran in the UK music industry and media industry, his representation stated: "In a career that has spanned 40 years, there have never been any complaints made against him officially or unofficially. Tim Westwood strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing."Explore more on these topics:
