Three bodies found in search for five young people that disappeared on night out in Newport

Police located a car that had been involved in a collision

The bodies of three young people reported missing after a night out in Newport have been found.

And two other people reported missing have been taken to hospital with serious injures.

Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21 were last seen in Cardiff in the early hours of Saturday, having travelled there from Porthcawl, The Mirror reported.

They had made the trip in a Volkswagen Tiguan with two men the publication named as – Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32. The men, both from Cardiff, have also been reported as missing.

Gwent Police said that following inquiries to locate the group, officers found the car they were last seen in, just after midnight on Monday, in the St Mellons area of Cardiff. They have not said what members of the group are deceased.

The group were understood to be enjoying a night out at the popular bar Muffler before going to clubbing hotspot Trecco Bay in Porthcawl, the Mirror reported.

Police believe the car was involved in a road traffic collision and came off the A48.

Gwent Police confirmed to the PA news agency that three of those who were reported missing have been found dead.

Specialist officers are supporting the families of those involved and inquiries are ongoing.

In a tweet, Gwent Police said: “If you can help call us on 101, or send us a direct message, quoting 2300071791. “The case has been referred to the IOPC in line with normal procedures.”
