This man got catfished into thinking he was dating Katy Perry for six years

One of the most bizarre episodes to date.

Readers, spare a thought for Spencer Morrill….

In one of the most… unique… episodes of “Catfish” to date, Spencer recruited Nev Schulman and Max Joseph to double check if the person he’s been in an online relationship for the last six year is who she said she was.

Standard Catfish fare, only Spencer believed that he was in an online relationship with Katy Perry.

As in the multi-millionaire,  Taylor Swift nemesis, just been photographed hanging out with her “dick out for harambe” boyfriend Orlando Bloom, singer, Katy Perry.

As Spencer explains, while he and “Katy” have never met face to face, they text and email a lot and once had a phone call. That cost $270.

“It was an immediate connection. A million ‘I love yous’ back and forth. It was pretty cool,” Spencer explains, before revealing the engagement ring he had made for her, which cost him “25%” of his savings.

As the episode all came to a head, Nev and Max eventually traced “Katy’s” number and email address to a woman named Harriet from Gloucester, England.

“We’ve found the person you’ve been talking to beyond really any shred of doubt, and you still want to believe the thing that makes you happier,” Nev told him. “You need to know that you’re not talking to Katy Perry.

“And you [Harriet] need to start thinking about the fact that this is the actual human being. As weird and crazy as he might be, he has a heart and was giving it to you 100% for six years of his life. For both of you, there’s some self reflection that needs to happen.”

Harriet responded. “For me it was enjoyable, but there’s also that kind of realisation that I’ve lost myself in that… I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine not talking to you.

Harriet did apologise for her catfishing, admitting that she came to see Spencer as her rock, helping her through tough times, including her father passing away.

She added: “I’m genuinely sorry. I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong.”

Now in a recent, radio broadcast, Katy Perry addressed the episode saying, “My heart goes out to him, actually.”
“Anybody who’s been fooled like that … people have dreams and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is always so accessible. We live on the coasts and we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and I feel bad for him. So I didn’t really like to indulge in that because my heart, like, would die.”
