The Voice star Ryan Whyte Maloney dies aged 44

Ryan Whyte Maloney, who was a contestant on The Voice US in 2014, has passed away aged 44.

Maloney’s death was confirmed by the Clark County Coroner in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

According to the Mirror, the musician and reality star died by suicide.

Maloney’s final social media post was on Monday. In his Instagram Stories, the singer, who appeared to be in a bar, wrote: “Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking.”

He rose to fame in 2014 when he competed on Season 6 of The Voice. He secured his spot on Blake Shelton’s team after performing Journey’s song Lights during a blind audition.

Maloney became one of the country star’s top 5 finalists.

He celebrated his 44th birthday just two weeks ago.

In an Instagram post, he thanked his fans, writing: “I’m overflowing with gratitude for the lovely birthday wishes and affection I received today. Your kindness truly warms my heart. Thank you a million times over!”

Born in Traverse City, Michigan in 1981, Maloney grew up playing the guitar, violin, cello, and drums. He later became the frontman for prog-rock group Indulge. After 10 years with the band, Maloney left in 2015 to pursue a solo career.
