Texas shooting: First child victims identified as death toll rises to 21

The two teachers killed in the attack have also been identified

The first victims have been named after a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school which has left at least 19 students and two adults dead.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun and possibly a rifle, Sky News reports.

Ramos opened fire and killed 19 children and two teachers, before he was killed by police. He is also suspected of shooting his grandmother before the rampage.

Several of the pupils have now been identified as the first child victims of the massacre, along with both of the teachers killed.

Fourth grade student Xavier Lopez, 10, was identified by his family as one of the victims. His mother had attended his awards ceremony just hours before the shooting.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for his funeral. This has already raised $47,500 at the time of writing.

Meanwhile Uziyah Garcia’s family confirmed the nine-year-old as one of those killed. They told NBC 5 that he was due to turn 10 this summer.

Amerie jo Garza, 10, was also killed in the shooting. Her father told ABC News that she had only celebrated her birthday two weeks ago. In a statement he said: “Thank you everyone for the prayers and help trying to find my baby.”

“She’s been found. My little love is now flying high with the angels above. Please don’t take a second for granted.

“Hug your family. Tell them you love them. I love you Amerie jo. Watch over your baby brother for me.”

Makenna Lee Elrod, 10, has been identified as one of the victims. Her parents had feared she may not have survived, and a family friend confirmed on Tuesday night that she was among the dead.

Her father told KTRK he was “on the way to the funeral home” because “we can’t find my daughter.”

Pilar Newberry, whose daughter was in a tumbling class with Makenna, confirmed her death on Facebook hours later.

She wrote: “Sweet Makenna Rest in Paradise!! My heart is shattered as my daughter Chloe loved her so much!!”

Nevaeh Bravo, Eliahana Torres and Ellie Garcia have also been confirmed among the child victims.

Eva Mireles has been identified as one of the teachers killed in the attack. She was had one daughter and was married to a policeman.

The fourth grade teacher had worked in the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District for 17 years, ABC reports.

The second teacher killed has been identified as Irma Garcia.

University Hospital in San Antonio said a 10-year-old girl and a woman, 66, were in critical condition; and that two girls, aged nine and 10, were in a fair and good condition respectively.
