Singer dies on stage in front of hundreds of fans after freak accident

An investigation is underway into his death

The 35-year-old reportedly suffered a fatal electric shock when he was embraced by a fan wearing soaking wet clothes on stage. The hug triggered a nearby cable to deliver a huge electrical jolt to Sasaki, who was performing at The Solar Hotel in Salinopolis, Brazil.

He passed away instantly following the incident, per reports.

His death is being investigated by Brazil's Civil Police.

In a statement, the hotel said: "We are fully dedicated to providing support to his family and taking the necessary measures. We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperating with the competent authorities for the proper clarification of the events."

It is not yet clear why the fan in question was soaked when he climbed onto the stage, with the artist's aunt, Rita Matos, expressing her confusion over the unfolding events.

She told local media: "What we know is that his show was scheduled for a specific time and was moved up, but we are contacting people who were with him at the moment to understand how everything happened. We will gather all the information in a statement that we will release to the press."

Sasaki is survived by his wife, Mariana, whom he had been married to for nearly a year, the NME reports.

Sasaki had a reputation for his singing and guitar-playing in Belem, in the north of Brazil.

He was said to have the nickname the "king of encores" thanks to lengthy performances that could sometimes last up to 12 hours.

His close friend and felloe singer Adriano Freitas said: "We were friends in daily life, beyond music. A super charismatic guy, his talent was incredible.

"He was the best singer and guitarist in Belem."

He continued: "A great friend, very family-oriented, attentive to his friendships, and to those who appreciated his work."

Comedian Natto Almeida, another of Sasaki's friends, said: "What will definitely stand out about Sasaki is his good heart, very polite. I think this will be the lasting mark he leaves behind."
