A woman in her 50s was rushed to hospital after the freak accident

Horrifying CCTV footage has emerged showing a woman enjoying a cigarette being pinned against a bench by an out-of-control car.

The victim, believed to be in her 50s, was chatting to a woman sitting beside her on West Street, Havant, when a Honda hatchback veered towards her.

The car is then seen coming to a stop with the bonnet and bumper pressed against the woman’s stomach and legs, leaving her pinned between the vehicle, bench, and a church wall.

Seconds later the driver appears to regain control of the car and reverses away, narrowly squeezing between two bollards, before coming to a stop.

Stunned onlookers are then seen coming to the woman’s rescue, during the incident on November 15, before paramedics arrived and took her to University Hospital Southampton.

Police said the woman suffered serious injuries to her legs.

A second person was also treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed it attended the scene around 2.38pm, sending two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance “who were assessing and treating two patients”.

“One patient has already been treated by our crews for serious injuries and has been taken to University Hospital Southampton accompanied by the ambulance and aircrew,” the spokesperson told MailOnline.

Hampshire Police said officers are still investigating “the exact circumstances of the collision” and asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting the reference 44210458976.
