Shocking moment woman smoking on park bench slammed into by car

A woman in her 50s was rushed to hospital after the freak accident

Horrifying CCTV footage has emerged showing a woman enjoying a cigarette being pinned against a bench by an out-of-control car.

The victim, believed to be in her 50s, was chatting to a woman sitting beside her on West Street, Havant, when a Honda hatchback veered towards her.

The car is then seen coming to a stop with the bonnet and bumper pressed against the woman's stomach and legs, leaving her pinned between the vehicle, bench, and a church wall.

Seconds later the driver appears to regain control of the car and reverses away, narrowly squeezing between two bollards, before coming to a stop.

Stunned onlookers are then seen coming to the woman's rescue, during the incident on November 15, before paramedics arrived and took her to University Hospital Southampton.

Police said the woman suffered serious injuries to her legs.

A second person was also treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.
