Senior Russian figure Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev has been shot several times in Moscow by an attacker who fled shortly after.
Alexeyev is deputy head of the GRU military intelligence service.
He is said to be in a serious condition following the shooting.
“According to investigators, on 6 February in a residential building located on Volokolamskoe Highway in Moscow, an as-yet-unidentified individual fired several shots at a man and fled the scene. The victim was hospitalised in a city hospital,” Svetlana Petrenko, a spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee told state news agency RIA Novosti.
Petrenko added that a search for the shooter is underway as the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office investigates.
