Sadiq Khan knighted in New Year Honours List

"It’s the honour of my life to serve the city I love."

In May this year, Khan became the first London mayor to win a third term when he defeated Susan Hall in the mayoral election.

Other political figures to be honoured in this year's list include Labour MP Emily Thornberry, who has been made a dame, and Andy Street, former West Midlands mayor, who has received a knighthood.

Sir Gareth has been recognised for his efforts with England's national football team, who he led to back-to-back Euros finals.

He is the fourth England manager to receive the honour, after Sir Walter Winterbottom, Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson.

The 54-year-old is named alongside a host of other sporting names, including 800m Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who received an MBE.

Other notable honours go to actor Stephen Fry, who received a knighthood, gardener Alan Titchmarsh, musician Myleene Klass and actress Sarah Lancashire.

Four former sub-postmasters, Lee Castleton, Jo Hamilton, Christopher Head and Seema Misra, were also honoured with OBEs for services to justice for their roles in bringing the Post Office to court over the Horizon scandal.
