Ryanair have launched a public takedown of Elon Musk after the billionaire suggested he could buy the airline.
In the last few hours, Ryanair have announced an apparent Dublin press conference designed specifically to mock Musk’s latest Twitter tantrum.
In a statement, the airline said:
The response comes after Musk floated the idea of buying Ryanair on his social media platform.
Musk even ran a poll asking users whether he should purchase the airline and “put someone whose actual name is Ryan in charge”.
While the poll went viral, any serious takeover would face immediate legal barriers.
Under EU aviation rules, European airlines must remain majority owned and controlled by EU nationals which would make a Musk takeover virtually impossible, regardless of his personal wealth.
That didn’t stop Ryanair from going on the offensive.
The feud originally began over Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service, which Ryanair has repeatedly ruled out installing on its aircraft.
O’Leary has previously argued that the additional equipment would increase drag and fuel costs, and that most Ryanair passengers on short-haul flights have no interest in paying for onboard Wi-Fi.
Musk, never one to back down online, responded by calling O’Leary an 'utter idiot' and telling users he should be fired.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has called a press conference at 10:00 tomorrow, Wednesday 21 January, in Dublin to address (undress?) Elon Musk’s latest Twitshit.
"Musk knows even less about airline ownership rules than he does about aircraft aerodynamics," said MOL.
Perhaps Musk needs a break? Ryanair is launching a Great Idiots seat sale especially for Elon and any other idiots on ‘X’. Buy now before Musk gets one.
