Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney announce huge new business venture

Wrexham Lager Beer Company Ltd have been brewing since 1882 and is the oldest lager brewery still in existence in Britain.

It was the only lager available on the infamous voyage of the Titanic according to the Brewery’s website.

Now, Reynolds and McElhenney have become co-owners alongside the Roberts family.

The Hollywood actors bought Wrexham AFC in 2020 and took the football club from strength to strength, securing back-to-back promotions.

Their journey was documented in the Disney+ documentary Welcome To Wrexham.

Wrexham which is situated in northeast Wales was made a city in 2022 by the late Queen Elizabeth II during her platinum jubilee celebrations.

Last month, it was confirmed that McElhenney and Reynolds were also in talks to invest in Cardiff-based cricket team Welsh Fire.

The latest investment was made by Red Dragon Ventures, created to "drive growth in the Wrexham community and Wrexham AFC".

Wrexham Lager says the deal will ‘scale up’ its infrastructure and international and international production, distribution and marketing efforts.

In their announcement, the pair said they had ‘learned a lot’ as co-chairmen of Wrexham.

They said: “The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offsides rule and the occasional need for beer - especially after finance meetings.

“Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history and we're excited to help write its next chapter.”

The Roberts family, who have owned the business since 2011, will maintain an active role within the company.

The CEO, James Wright said that the Wrexham Lager Beer Company Ltd was a ‘brand with great heritage’.

He added: “To have Rob and Ryan onboard as we embark on international expansion is huge for us.”
