Ukrainian Navy attacked the ship at night

The Russian warship that fired on Ukrainian soldiers after being told to “go f–k yourself” at Snake Island has been destroyed by Ukrainian forces.

In a clip shared by the Ukrainian Navy on Monday, a barrage of missiles can be seen during the defence of Odessa, on the Black Sea. As the rockets shoot off into the blackness of night, a small explosion of orange can be seen in the distance as the ship is destroyed, reports the Times.

One man can be heard shouting, “We f****** hit them”, and another echoes the sentiments spoken by Snake Island soldiers last week and shouts: “Russian warship, go f*** yourself.”

Ukraine’s armed forces Facebook page shared the footage, writing: “Today, March 7, 2022, the Marine Corps units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, protecting Odessa region, struck an enemy ship.”

The Ukrainian Navy also noted the conflict, updating people with a simple: “The enemy has retreated again.”

Reports suggested that the vessel was Vasily Bykov, one of two ships involved in the viral moment at Zmiinyi Island. It’s not yet clear whether any Russian soldiers escaped the destruction of the ship.

After their intense standoff with the Russian warships, the soldiers posted on the island became worldwide “heroes”. While initial reports said they had been obliterated by rocket fire, reports soon corrected the record and confirmed the soldiers were alive.

In a post on Facebook confirming the news, the Ukrainian navy said it was “very happy to learn that our brothers are alive and well with them”. The post went on to praise the sailors for “bravely” in twice rebuking “attacks of the Russian invaders.”
