A man who was killed following a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon in Ireland has been named as Ciaran Keating, the older brother of Ronan Keating.

It is understood that the Boyzone singer’s brother was travelling with his wife Ann Marie to see their son Ruairi play for Cork City as they played Sligo Rovers.

Ciaran Keating sadly suffered fatal injuries in the crash on the N5 in Swinford, Co Mayo on a part of the road known as an accident black spot.

His wife was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment for injuries which are understood not to be life threatening.

The driver of the second car is also in hospital and is being treated for serious injuries, as well as another male passenger in that car.

A statement from Cork City reads: “All at Cork City FC are deeply saddened at the passing of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairí Keating. We extend our deepest sympathies to Ruairí and the entire Keating family at this exceptionally difficult time. May he rest in peace.

“We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course.”

Ciaran and his family moved from Dublin to Mayo 15 years ago, with his death shocking the community.

He is survived by Ronan and their two other brothers Gerard and Gary, as well as their sister Linda.

The coroner for Mayo has since been notified and a post mortem is to take place later.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda forensic collision investigators yesterday evening and the road has since reopened.
