The premiere date has been announced.

A release date for The Office US spin-off show has been announced.

The show entitled The Paper, is set in The Office universe and will premiere on Peacock this September.

Ireland’s very own Domhnall Gleeson will star in the new series.

Coming from The US Office’s original creator Greg Daniels, alongside Michael Koman (Nathan for You), several entertainment outlets have previously suggested that the show would involve a new office with new characters, but would still take place in the same world as the Steve Carrell-led sitcom.

It’s now been revealed that the show will follow the office of a struggling newspaper entitled The Truth Teller.

The release states: “Created by Greg Daniels (The Office) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), The Paper brings the action from Scranton to Toledo as the same documentary crew that followed the beloved employees of Dunder Mifflin search for a new subject to focus on.”

“They land on the historic but struggling Midwestern newspaper, The Truth Teller, and the eager publisher trying to revive it,” continues the show’s description.

In the first photo released by the network, Gleeson is seen taking centre stage in the new office of focus.

Eagle-eyed fans of the original show will spot alum Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar Martinez sitting in the background behind a computer.

The US Office first aired in 2005 and was an adaptation of the BBC series of the same name, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

After the first season debuted to an initially mixed reception, it went on to become one of the most popular comedy shows of all time.

With an ensemble cast including Carrell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling to name but a few, the sitcom ran for nine seasons before it came to an end in 2013.

The US Office and its stars won numerous awards and is considered by many to be one of – if not the – greatest sitcom of all time.

With a spin-off series set to take place in the same universe as the original, there is presumably the possibility that some of our Scranton favourites could make an appearance.

A full-scale reunion is out of the question, however, it has been said.
