It is reportedly set to be broadcast in a matter of weeks
Queen Camilla is set to be portrayed as “wicked stepmother” to Prince Harry and Prince William in an upcoming Channel 4 documentary.
The royal documentary, which is said to be “pro Harry,” will reportedly portray Camilla as having spent 30 years crafting her media image, with Channel 4 apparently expecting the programme to be “hugely controversial.”
The documentary’s broadcast was said to be delayed following the news of King Charles‘ cancer diagnosis, which sparked fears of a huge public backlash to the programme if it had been aired.
It is reported that the documentary will be titled “Camilla: Harry’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother?”, and will apparently also contain claims that Queen Elizabeth II never wanted Camilla to sit on the throne as Queen.
According to the Sun, the programme will be broadcast in a matter of weeks.
A source told the publication: “This is very much a pro-Harry, anti-Camilla documentary. It presents him and Meghan as victims of the family’s unkindness. It’s going to cause serious waves — and Channel 4 know it. They know this is hugely controversial. A lot of people aren’t going to like it, especially at Buckingham Palace.”
Producers of the programme are said to have asked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to contribute to the documentary, but a spokesperson for the couple denied their involvement.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan’s Archewell foundation said: “Neither Duke or Duchess, nor their team, participated in the making of this documentary. We would safely like to assume it will state as such in the show.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “It will be looking at Camilla’s biography and background. It is yet to be scheduled.”
In the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare, the royal claimed he and his brother Prince William begged their father not to marry Camilla.
Whilst they were said to approve of Camilla, they did not want Charles to marry a second time following the death of their mother Princess Diana.
