BREAKING: JD Wetherspoon just shut down all their social media accounts

They don’t believe killing off their social media accounts will harm business.

Booze giants J.D. Wetherspoon have decided to shut down down their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for all 904 of their pubs and their head office.

The move comes after ‘the trolling of MPs and ethnic minorities’, according to Sky News, and the recent controversy over data leaks at Facebook.

The company is taking a stance against the addictive nature of social media, and do not believe it will stop people from drinking in their pubs.

“We are going against conventional wisdom that these platforms are a vital component of a successful business,” said chairman Tim Martin.

“I don’t believe that closing these accounts will affect our business whatsoever, and this is the overwhelming view of our pub managers.

“It’s becoming increasingly obvious that people spend too much time on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and struggle to control the compulsion.

“We will still be as vocal as ever through our Wetherspoon News magazine, as well as keeping the press updated at all times.

“We will also be maintaining our website and the Wetherspoon app and encourage customers to get in touch with us via our website or by speaking with the manager at their local pub.”

The move was also announced on the company’s Twitter page, presumably before it disappears from view.
