Dozens of Paris Saint-Germain fans clashed with riot police in Paris on Sunday night after their team’s loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

It was the first time PSG had reached the final but they fell just short, with a former PSG player Kingsley Coman scoring the decisive goal.

After the game, Marseille fans took to the streets in celebration, while PSG fans took to the streets in frustration, with some fans damaging public property and attempting to loot public buildings.

Following an increase in coronavirus cases in France, riot police had been deployed to clamp down on large public gatherings and to enforce the wearing of face coverings in public places.

Before the game had finished, a group of riot police stormed into a bar in the city centre to remove a group of fans who were flouting coronavirus guidelines while watching the game.

In the west of the city, police used tear gas to disperse fans who had gathered outside PSG’s stadium, the Parc des Princes.

More than 200 people were cautioned by police for not wearing face coverings, according to interior minister Gerald Darmanin.

Police officials say there were no arrests.
