Prince William recalls the time he got an “absolute bollocking” from the Queen

Nobody interrupts one's afternoon tea

We generally think about the Queen as being the embodiment of respectability and self-control, rather than a furious, sweary nan.

But according to the Duke of Cambridge Prince William, HM has been known to royally slam down the scones and lose her rag with the best of them.

Speaking to Sky News as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, William recalled a childhood incident that earned him him an “absolute bollocking” from his grandmother.

The story in question involved the prince, his cousins Zara and Peter Phillips, and a quad bike.

William explained:

“We were chasing Zara around who was on a go-cart, and Peter and I managed to herd Zara into a lamppost. And the lamppost came down and nearly squashed her, and I remember my grandmother being the first person out at Balmoral running across the lawn in her kilt. She came charging over and gave us the most almighty bollocking, and that sort of stuck in my mind from that moment on.”

So there you have it. The Queen does not take kindly to anyone vandalising her garden in a senseless quad bike rampage. Just in case you ever had a similar plan in mind.
