Alternative travel arrangements for the royals are being made
The plane carrying Prince Edward and Countess Sophie had to be diverted by to the UK after suffering a “technical issue” in mid-air.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex had been travelling to Gibraltar and had been due to walk down Main Street from the Convent to City Hall at 4pm, the Mirror reports.
A statement said that the Wessexes flight had been “diverted safely back to the UK due to a technical issue.”
It added that “alternative arrangements are being made for Their Royal Highnesses’ arrival in Gibraltar later today and the programme will be adjusted accordingly.

Gibraltar’s national broadcaster tweeted: “BA Press Office tells GBC pilots on flight 490 decided to return to Heathrow as a precaution due to a minor technical issue, and the aircraft landed normally. It’s arranging for a replacement aircraft to operate the flight and thanks customers for their patience.”
