Police flooded with messages from swooning admirers after sharing mug shot of drugs suspect

‘I wouldn’t mind knowing where he is either’

A police force who put out an appeal for a man in connection to “drugs offences” have been flooded with messages about the wanted man – but they’re unlikely to be of any use to their investigation.

Humberside Police posted a mugshot of 36-year-old Robert Rimmer on Tuesday, only to be told by smitten admirers, “we are looking for him too.”

The mugshot attracted hundreds of comments, mainly from people hoping to catch him first, though some noted Rob’s surname was a bit of a bummer.

While police were seemingly hopeful of getting a tipoff, they were instead faced with a fan club of admirers. As of Tuesday afternoon the force’s Facebook post had 572 comments and had been shared 347 times.

Many commenters said they might not tell police where Rimmer is if they find him first, mainly due to his toned and tanned physique.

Within minutes of CheshireLive publishing an article on Rimmer Tuesday morning, a reader commented to describe him as “stunning”. Several others said they wanted to find him before the police did.

One woman noted, “I wouldn’t mind approaching him” while another wrote: ‘So… handsome, gym bod and his own business? Haha.’

Another said: “If I find him can I keep him finders keepers and all.”

Rimmer, from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, is wanted in connection with drug-related offences in East Yorkshire and is known to have links to Hull, Cheshire, Liverpool and Blackpool.

Anyone who sees Rimmer, or knows where he is, is urged to “not approach him” but to contact police immediately on the 101 line quoting investigation reference 20900368291.

Information can also be given anonymously via independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Rimmer’s case is reminiscent of the Jeremy Meeks story.

Meeks was arrested in 2014 during a gang bust in California and his mugshot went viral. He has, forever since, been known as the ‘hot felon’.

After being released from hail on weapons and theft charges, Meeks went on to become a male fashion model and date Sir Philip Green’s daughter, Chloe, whom he had a child with.
