He’s issued a direct apology to the couple
Piers Morgan has had to apologise to Beyonce and Jay-Z after lawyers for the pair got in touch with him over comments made on his show.
The former Good Morning Britain anchor made the rare apology after serious allegations relating to arrested rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs were aired on his YouTube show, Uncensored.
Combs was arrested in the US last month on federal charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He denies all the charges
Morgan had invited American singer Jaguar Wright onto Uncensored on October 2. During her appearance on the show, the pair started discussing Combs’ arrest, and Wright made unfounded accusations against Jay-Z and Beyonce.
The 47-year-old said Jay-Z was a monster akin to Combs, and claimed in another part of the show that he was “worse than Diddy.”
She also made baseless accusations against the 99 Problems rapper and his wife Beyonce, saying they had hundreds of victims, the Mirror reports.
Since the episode was broadcast, lawyers for Jay-Z and Beyonce reached out to Morgan.
In a direct apology to the couple, Morgan said Wright’s comments were “totally false” and revealed the episode had since been edited to remove them.
He said: “Jaguar Wright made several serious allegations about Jay-Z and Beyoncé during their interview. As I said at the time, they were not present to respond or defend themselves.
“They have now responded. Their lawyers contacted us to say those claims were totally false, and have no basis in fact.
“We’ve therefore complied with the legal request to cut them from the original interview. Editing interviews is not something we take lightly on a show called Uncensored.
“But like the proverbial cries of fire in a crowded theatre, there are legal limits on us too. We apologise to Jay-Z and Beyoncé.”
