Peter Andre shares video addressing Vardy comments

‘If I had said this about her anatomy, or a man said something about a woman’s anatomy, there would be outrage’

Peter Andre has shared an emotional video on his Instagram addressing the jokes Rebekah Vardy made about his body in a 2004 News of the World article.

In the caption of the video, the 49-year-old wrote: “My thoughts on Rebekah V: Plse swipe to see all three vids [sic]. Here I was this morning sat in my robe feeling like I had to say something. Feel free to come to your own conclusion. Just a couple of things first.

“Sorry to Emily and the children that have had to see and hear some not very nice things. Secondly that ridiculous article yest from the @dailymail (about a certain remote control…)was written fifteen years ago and republished yesterday.

“To be fair the media are very kind to me in general,” he added. “Thirdly, you all know I like to take the p*** out of myself but maybe I felt a bit vulnerable this morning. Love from an Aussie Brit Greek.”

In the video he says: “I’ve took it for 15 years. 15 years this has been going on and I kept quiet and I didn’t say anything, and I let everyone have their laugh and I let everyone say what they wanted to say.

“Now, she’s gone to court and admitted the story was made up and she did that because her ex-husband forced her to do it. Fair enough.

“But, put that all aside and just think how it feels that if a man, or if I had said this, about her anatomy or a man said something about a woman’s anatomy, there would be outrage.

Speaking about the toll the story was taking on his mental health, he continued: “It’s not fair that something like this can happen again and again and again and we talk about all sorts of things, about mental health, about being kind and all that sort of stuff, and nothing seems to change.”

The ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer was quickly inundated with support from fans.

One commented:  “Absolutely well said Peter!

“You and your family shouldn’t have to have this resurfacing for this many years because of a stupid ‘made up’ comment! People need to think about what they say and the damaging effect it can have on others for a lifetime!”

Another said: “Absolutely spot on. If a man said things like that about a woman there would be outrage! It’s unfair and not acceptable. Stay strong x x.”

On Tuesday, Rebekah Vardy was cross-examined by Coleen Rooney’s lawyer David Sherborne as part of the ongoing libel trial between the two.

Vardy was presented with comments she made about Peter Andre in a 2004 interview with the News of the World in which she went into detail about a rumoured sexual encounter with the popstar.

Vardy was read excerpts of the piece by Sherborne in which she described Andre’s “manhood” as a “miniature chipolata.”

Vardy claims she was coerced into giving the interview to the tabloid by her ex-husband and said she “deeply regrets” the piece.
