If you've been to Hackney recently you may have seen a black poster featuring the word "IS".
Facebook user Alan Wolfson spotted a black flag in East London with nothing else on it other than the letters 'IS'. As he understood it, the flag was one part of a collection intended to spell out the phrase: "HACKNEY IS FASHION".
Aside from being a factually inaccurate mantra, the absence of the additional flags in the sequence means the banner looks a bit like it could be propaganda for so-called 'Islamic State'.
that although they were aware of the flags, they had nothing to do with putting them up. The
report that they were actually installed over a year ago, and Andrew Sissons, Hackney Walk development's strategy director, told the newspaper that they are due to be 'updated shortly'.
So, not a black IS flag, but a black flag with IS on it and absolutely zero context, just hanging there, flapping in the wind.
