The student is the second from the school to die of what police are calling ‘apparent suicide’ in the last week

A second student from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School – the scene of the Parkland shooting on February 14, 2018 – has taken their own life, police have confirmed.

The student, who has not yet been publicly identified, died on Saturday evening and the death is currently under investigation, said Coral Springs Police spokesman Tyler Reik.

According to police, the circumstances of the death are not yet known.

The death of the student comes at a time when the school is mourning the passing of yet another survivor of the shooting, Sydney Aiello.

A student in the school at the time of the shooting, Aiello suffered from survivor’s guilt and was subsequently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, her mother said. Her funeral was held on March 22.

17 people – 14 of them students and three of them staff members – were killed when an expelled student opened fire at the school in February of 2018. The shooter confessed and has since been indicted on 17 counts of murder.
