Oscar Pistorius found guilty of murdering Reeva Steenkamp and due to be re-sentenced

Oscar Pistorius has been convicted of murder.

South Africa's supreme court of appeal has upgraded his guilty charge of culpable homicide to murder. The Olympic and Paralympic athlete was serving time for the February 2013 killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home - but is likely to now return to prison to serve a sentence of a minimum of 15 years. Pistorius always maintained that he mistook Steenkamp for home invaders when he shot and killed her while she was locked in a bedroom toilet. Judge Lorimer Leach made the announcement, adding that the case was "a human tragedy of Shakespearean proportions". Pistorius has been serving out his original sentence under house arrest following his release from prison.
