Theresa May has announced that no ministers, or members of the Royal Family will attend this summer’s World Cup in Russia. The Prime Minister made the announcement in the House of Commons, as part of her statement on poisoning of Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in last week Salisbury.  May said that it is highly likely that Moscow is to blame for the attack.

She also announced that 23 undeclared Russian intelligence officers in the UK will be given seven days to leave the country. May said she had no issue with the Russian people, but that it was “tragic that President Putin has chosen to act in this way, and accused the Russian state of “sarcasm, contempt and defiance”.

Former Russian double agent Skripal and his daughter are both currently fighting for his life due to the effects of a rare Russian-developed nerve agent.
