Nicola Bulley

They claimed that she had ‘significant issues with alcohol’

The family of missing mother Nicola Bulley told police that she had “some significant issues with alcohol”.

As per the BBCthey told those investigating the incident that those struggles may have been brought on by struggles with the menopause.

Bulley has been missing since January 27 while on a riverside dog walk in St Michael’s on Wyre in Lancashire.

Lancashire Police have said that the 45-year-old has been considered a high-risk missing person since the investigation first began.

The authorities have said that it was called to her home last month due to concerns for her welfare while health professionals came to her house on January 10, however no arrests were made but it is being investigated.

A police spokesperson said it was clear after speaking to the family of the missing mother that she had “in the past suffered with some significant issues with alcohol which were brought on by her ongoing struggles with the menopause.”

“These struggles had resurfaced over recent months [and] this caused some real challenges for Paul and the family,” they added.

“As a result of those issues, a response car staffed by both police and health professionals attended a report of concern for welfare at Nicola’s home address on 10 January.

“No-one has been arrested in relation to this incident, but it is being investigated.”

Police were criticised earlier on Wednesday in response to their press conference to provide an update on the search to find Bulley.

This was the first time both the public and press had heard from Rebecca Smith, the detective superintendent leading the enquiry.

Smith was joined alongside Peter Lawson, the assistant chief constable (ACC) from Lancashire Police where the two reaffirmed that there is “not a single piece of information or evidence to suggest that there is any third party involvement in the disappearance of Bulley.
