A model who was killed in a bungee jumping accident was wearing a GoPro camera that may have been hidden after her death, police have revealed.
According to the police, 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was killed in a terrible accident.
She was jumping off Skeleton Bridge and fell 130ft in Limeira, Brazil, without a rope.
And now the police are in search of a missing GoPro, which they say might have been attached to her neck strap as she fell.
Police have arrested bungee workers Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, and Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, for allegedly “forgetting” to clip on Maria’s harness.
They are now facing homicide charges after the accident led to the model’s death.
According to the police, three more suspects have also been arrested while one of them is suspected of removing the camera and deleting crucial evidence from it.
Among the three other suspects are a woman, 29, from Rio de Janeiro, and two men from Limeira and Indaiatuba, aged 25 and 27.
As per one witness, Rafael Goulart, an employ was seen taking off the camera as Maria lay drawing her last breath.
“The first scene I remember when I saw the girl on the ground was seeing one of the employees removing the GoPro camera from the neck strap of the body that was already on the ground, either worried about the equipment or wanting to hide evidence”, the witness told news outlet EPTV.
Following these details by the witness on the scene, now São Paulo State authorities are investigating possible “suppression of evidence… especially related to the disappearance of the image capture equipment used by the victim during the jump.”
Footage of the fall that killed Maria has circulated on social media, while her camera hasn’t been found yet.
Meanwhile, a lawyer representing Egoroff, Cintra and de Freitas Goncalves has disputed any notion that Maria’s death was intentional.
