‘I’ll never get to take them to their first game. I’m devastated’
The father of the four children who sadly died in a house fire on Thursday evening has spoken of his grief that he will never get to take his football-loving sons to their first match.
Twins Kyson and Bryson, aged four, and Leyton and Logan, aged just three perished when their terrace home in Sutton, South London set alight while their mother, Deveca Rose, 27, left them alone to visit Sainsbury’s just five minutes’ walk away from the family home.
Speaking to The Sun, the children’s father, 28-year-old Dalton Hoath, has discussed his heartbreak that he’ll never get to take his boys to their first football match.
“I’ll never get to take them to their first game. I’m devastated,” he told the outlet.
“Their first football game was all they were talking about. Now I won’t be able to see them playing or watching football.
“It would have been passing down a tradition as the family have supported Wimbledon for years.
“They were bright, caring, loveable boys. I don’t know how I will carry on. It’s a miracle I haven’t lost the plot already.”
60 firefighters reported to the scene in under three minutes at around 7pm on Thursday December 16 and attempted to rescue the children. Medics carried out CPR outside the residence before the four children were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead from smoke inhalation.
While the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, it is thought that faulty fairy lights could have been responsible, setting fire to the PVC door on the house.
Hoath, who is separated from Rose, works at AFC Wimbledon, with a strong love of football running in the family.
Police have taken a 27 year old woman into custody amid suspicions of neglect. Meanwhile, Hoath’s father, Jason Hoath, has also shared his grief at losing his grandchildren and the impact it has had on his son.
“I’ve just left my son. He’s devastated. We all are,” he said. “I’ve lost four grandchildren and he’s lost his kids as well.
“It’s all the more heartbreaking because their presents were piled under the tree ready.”
