A video, shared on social media, shows the moment Farfan’s uncle, Carlos Lucero, hops over the courtroom gate and attacks Ortiz.
Lucero proceeds to take Ortiz to the ground where he connects with several punches, despite the best efforts of security officers to pull him off.
Another man, since named as family friend Pete Ysasi, can be seen rushing in to land a few shots on Ortiz, at around the same time the suspect’s Dad arrives on to attempt to defend his son.
According to The Albuquerque Journal, Mr. Ortiz’s father – Joeray Ortiz – was one of several people who joined the brawl, though he told deputies that he was trying to “break up the fight”.
The conflict continued for at least a minute before sheriff’s deputies arrive and bring it to an end.
One of the craziest moments caught on camera is a flying kick from Ortiz’s father which lands on the head of one of Farfan’s family members.
Speaking to police after the incident, Lucero said: “He k*lled my niece like a coward… [the attack] was worth every moment.
The uncle and his friend were arrested and charged with felonies.
