Several people have suffered injuries on a seafront, as police have appealed for information after a “large disturbance”.
Following reports of a fight, Essex Police was called to Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea, shortly before 03:00 BST on Saturday.
At the scene several injured people needed medical attention, including one who had suffered a serious head injury, it has been reported.
According to detectives at the scene, a car is thought to have been involved in the incident.
However, the car was no longer there when officers arrived there.
The area around Pier Gap was closed by police and they have asked people to avoid it until further updates.
Police officers said that any witnesses should come forward and this includes those who might have dashcam footage in the area where the incident occurred.
