Warnings are in place for large parts of the UK

Weather warnings for snow, rain and wind have been issued for parts of the UK ahead of a new storm this weekend.

Storm Kathleen is due to hit parts of the country on Friday and Saturday. Ahead of this, yellow warnings for snow and rain have been put in place for Scotland on Friday.

The snow warning is in place from 3am until 9am on Friday for a large part of Scotland, potentially disrupting a lot of people’s morning commutes.

The warning stretches from near Stirling to just south of Inverness. In areas above 250m, between 2cm and 5cm of snow could fall, with 10cm or more expected above 300m.

At the same time, a warning for heavy rain is in place from 2am to 9am for Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The warning covers Cornwall, much of Wales, parts of Lancashire and Cumbria, and up into central Scotland and Northern Ireland.
