An investigation has been launched by police as a man, 33, has been found dead at Charlton Athletic’s stadium.
London Ambulance Service paramedics and officers were called on Tuesday to The Valley stadium in south-east London, after concerns for one person’s welfare.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have informed his next of kin who are now receiving support from officers.
It is thought that the man had fallen from height in the early hours of Monday morning, as detectives are now investigating that possibility.
Currently the death is being treated as unexpected, as inquiries are continuing.
The club said in a statement that following the discovery, it was supporting police with their investigation.
“Everyone at Charlton Athletic would like to express their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the individual's family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time”, a spokesperson for the Championship club said.
“The club are continuing to assist the authorities with their inquiries and respectfully ask that the privacy of those affected is respected.”
Further, the club added that there was no suggestion of any wrongdoing on its part and thanked its staff for their professionalism in dealing with a “particularly difficult and distressing situation”.
