Making A Murderer’s Brendan Dassey has just had his conviction overturned

Dassey was in jail for the first-degree homicide of Teresa Halbach.

Nine long years.

Brendan Dassey, whose case was made famous in the Netflix documentary series Making A Murderer, has had his conviction overturned.

Court documents released in the US state he should be “released from custody unless, within 90 days of the date of this decision, the State initiates proceedings to retry him.”

This means he could be a free man within 90 days.

Dassey is currently incarcerated in Columbia Correctional Institution, after being found guilty of first degree homicide in 2007, as well as second degree sexual assault and mutilation of a corpse.

The conviction was overturned in US today (Friday).

Making A Murderer is one of the most popular series on Netflix, documenting the story of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, who have both served prison time following the death of Teresa Halbach.

Dassey is the nephew of Avery, the subject of the series.

The conviction of the Dassey came under controversy after footage from his police interview was used in Making A Murderer.

Dassey was interviewed without a lawyer or a parent present, which can be seen in the video below.
