Major websites worldwide including Gov.uk and Amazon down due to ‘wider internet outage’

Danny Jones

The internet is down

While the internet dies, JOE.co.uk survives

The internet is down for some of the biggest names on the net as the government, Guardian, Amazon and Reddit websites are all not functioning . It’s the last one we’re most concerned about – where will go for our memes!?

The extent of the damage is unknown as we keeping finding more and more sites that simply aren’t working, here is a list of just some of the casualties:

  • https://www.vice.com (UK site too)

Honestly, we could go on forever but we really don’t have the time: we’re busy being one of the few sites that are still up! The Verge has even had to resort to a Google Doc. Yikes.

According to a number of sources (at least those that are left), the widespread internet outage is due to so many sites’ over-reliance on a cloud system called Fastly which seems to be working, well, slowly – or not at all.

Fortunately, social media seems to still be alive and kicking and some people are discovering the delights of Twitter and what spending your day on the likes of Facebook is like.

Lucky for you, we’re still alive and kicking all over the place, whether that be the web proper, on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook — the works!
