Liam Payne sadly passed away in October 2024

The girlfriend of the late Liam Payne has opened up about his death.

The singer died in a tragic accident in Argentina in October 2024. He was just 31 years old at the time of his death.

Payne reportedly fell from the balcony of his hotel room and suffered critical injuries.

The former One Direction member was alone at the time of his death, but his partner Kate Cassidy has stressed that she is not to blame.

In an interview with The Sun, Kate has explained why she left Argentina without Payne.

She said she didn’t abandon the singer but had to leave Argentina to look after their dog in America.

Kate said she never would’ve left Liam if she knew what would’ve happened to him.

She told the publication, “I’m not to blame. I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur.

“It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think (he might die young). But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn’t the first time we have travelled separately.

Kate added, “I just never thought this would have happened, that it would turn out the way it did.”

She continued: “It still doesn’t feel fully real for me that he’s not here. I’m trying to be the best I can be, but I feel like my life has changed so much. I think about Liam every second of every day.”

Kate stressed that they were both in a great place when she left Argentina.

“We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just can’t even believe the way things truly ended.”

An investigation into Payne’s tragic accident at the Casa Sur Hotel continues.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the singer’s tragic passing, but investigations are ongoing.

The singer’s cause of death was ruled as polytrauma meaning he suffered multiple traumatic injuries.
