Police have released a statement.

A large emergency response attended a scene on the waterfront in Liverpool city centre this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Mann Island, near The Strand, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that a number of emergency vehicles attending the scene.

Reports say that a large cordon is in place and that Mersey Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Police all attended the scene.

A video from the scene showed the scale of the the large response.

The scene is was attended by five police cars - one of which is unmarked - three fire engines, three incident response units, two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.

The Coastguard was also at the waterfront.

Merseryside Police have since released a statement.

It read: "We can confirm that emergency services are at Canning Dock this afternoon, Tuesday, April 14.

"At around 4.35pm officers and other emergency services received a report of a concern for safety of a man at the Canning Dock near Mann Island.

"The man came out of the water and has been taken to hospital for an assessment.Thank you for your patience and understanding as we deal with this incident."
