Jamie Redknapp angers fans with ‘inappropriate’ Xmas post

‘So sad that you can post pictures like that’

Jamie Redknapp has angered some of his fans by appearing to ‘brag’ about his lavish family Christmas despite the cost of living crisis facing the country.

The former football player, 49, took to Instagram on Boxing Day to reflect on his festive celebrations – which involved a two-time Michelin star chef popping by to cook for him and his loved ones.

Jamie and his wife Frida Andersson, 39, their children, and grandparents Harry and Sandra Redknapp were treated to an impressive spread of roast potatoes, brussels sprouts, carrots, cranberry sauce, beef and turkey, among other dishes.

“Happy Christmas and God Jul,” Jamie wrote in the social media post. “Love from our family. Amazing food @rest_story,” he concluded.

The post was accompanied by pictures of the decadent spread, the family snaps, and a photo of Jamie alongside the creator of the feast, chef Tom Sellers.

It was Sellers’ two-time Michelin star restaurant which catered for the Redknapp family on the big day, the Mirror reports.

But the post hit a nerve with several of Jamie’s followers, who found it insensitive considering how much some will be struggling this Christmas.

“So sad that you can post pictures like that, having your own chef to do your Xmas dinners when so many people are struggling to feed their kids & heat their houses,” one user wrote. “It must be nice to have that money !! Players overpaid & pundits. Have some respect!”

Another follower commented: “Cook your own food ffs! Why be so overly indulgent? It’s not hard to do.”

A third added: “Not appropriate. People [are] starving.”

“Looks like the cost of living hasn’t hit home yet,” another noted.

And another user simply wrote: “How then other half live eh?”

Some followers did defend the former footballer though, and thought it was unfair to judge him for the way he spends his money.

One person wrote: “Some people acting like the cost of living crisis is Jamie’s fault,”

Another said: “Food looks great. You’ve earned your money so you should be able to spend it however you like. I think [hiring] a chef is a great idea.”

And a third commented that the “cost of living crisis is a tory fault not Jamie Redknapp’s,” labelling those upset by the posts as “idiots.”

This Christmas was the second that Jamie and his wife Frida had celebrated together with their blended families since they got married in October 2021.
