Earlier in the week, a video emerged of England head coach Eddie Jones referring to Ireland as the “scummy Irish” and Wales as a “little s*** place”.

The video shows Jones giving a talk on leadership for Fuso, the Japanese parent company of England sponsors Mitsubishi.

In the clip, Jones told an audience: “We’ve played 23 Tests and have only lost one Test to the scummy Irish. I’m still dirty about that game. But we will get that back!

“We will get that back, don’t worry, we have them next year at home, we will get ’em back!”

It was uploaded by Fuso to YouTube in July last year but has only come to light before Saturday’s final round of the 2018 NatWest 6 Nations when England will face Ireland at Twickenham.

The head coach has since apologised unreservedly following the emergence of the footage, but it appears that Ireland’s rugby supporters have gotten the last laugh with Saturday’s spectacular win over England at Twickenham.

Since the Boys In Green picked up the Grand Slam trophy, #ScummyIrish has been trending on Twitter, with an array of rugby fans tearing Jones a new one with their comments.

As you can see, it appears that “scummy Irish” has been deemed a term of endearment in Irish vernacular from now on. Everyone loves an underdog, after all.

And maybe Jones should keep his head down next time he visits the Aviva Stadium…
